Section Chair's Message

Section Chair, Bob Styer, Villanova University

September 2009

Dear EPaDelites,

We look forward to seeing many of you at our Fall meeting November 7 at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. The program features Polya Award winner Andrew Simoson and MAA First Vice President Betty Mayfield, as well as outstanding student talks and the popular booktable with the best MAA publications.

At our business meeting we will award the $200 Student Paper Competition Award to Mr. Dmytro Yeroshkin of St. Joeseph’s University. We also will hold elections; if you wish to be involved in furthering excellence in mathematics, please speak to any board member; we will find a place for you to serve!

The Student Careers Conference is coming very soon, October 3 at Millersville.

If you are in your first three years of full-time teaching, we invite you to apply for the EPADEL Project NExT (New Experiences in Teaching) program by completing the information requested at http://math.moravian.edu/~epadel/next/.

Speaking of new faculty, MAA’s national teaching award for new faculty members, the Alder Award, has a deadline of October 1, but even if you missed this deadline, you can get an early start on nominating for 2010. http://www.maa.org/awards/alder.html.

Nominations for our section’s Crawford Teaching Award are due by December 15. Please nominate your colleagues.

Have you visited EpaDel on Facebook? Who knows what might be written on the walls?

Mark your calendars now for the Spring meeting at Elizabethtown College, April 24, 2010. This will be a joint meeting with PSMATYC, http://psmatyc.org. In mid February plan to attend the Moravian Student Conference. Then in November 2010 prepare for another exciting EPaDel meeting, to be held at Lasalle University and a joint meeting with our New Jersey MAA section colleagues. More great mathematics coming for faculty and students!
